Jieun Kim, Ph.D. student, won the Social Justice Spotlight Award.

Jieun Kim, a doctoral candidate, was selected for the Social Justice Spotlight Award by the ASU Graduate and Professional Student Association (GSPA). The GSPA Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee recognized her for her commitment to increasing and maintaining JEDI values through instrumental research. As a recipient of the Award, she will share her work at an upcoming Award ceremony (Date TBD).

Jieun Kim’s research agenda pays attention to equity aspects of green infrastructure and climate adaptation plans. Her recent research on “The Green Space Dilemma: Pathways to Greening with and without Gentrification” examines under what conditions urban greening projects encourage or deter gentrification. Continuing the effort of achieving an equitable and inclusive urban environment, she is embarking on a dissertation project focusing on how local climate adaptation plans are designed in consideration of marginalized, low-income communities.
