Choosing the Future: Technology and Opportunity in Communities

Caroline Tolbert presented her new book at Arizona State University’s Law School on January 15th 2020 - “Choosing the Future:  Technology and Opportunity in Communities.”  The book is coauthored by Karen Mossberger (ASU) and Scott LaCombe (University of Iowa).  Dr. Tolbert is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Iowa whose work weaves together a concern with diversity and inequality, elections and representation, and digital media and public policy. Her research includes nearly fifty peer-reviewed journal articles and eight books, two of which are co-edited. She was named a Collegiate Scholar by the University of Iowa in 2009.

The talk was sponsored by ASU’s University Technology Office (UTO) and drew policymakers and practitioners as well as university participants.  The Alliance for Innovation, which is an organization of council-manager cities interested in experimenting with new approaches to public management, featured an article about Prof. Tolbert’s talk as well as steps that Ft. Collins, CO is taking to ensure fast and affordable gigabit networks for innovation in their community.
