Ph.D. Candidate Jieun Kim Wins 2024 NASPAA Staats Emerging Scholars Award for Research on Urban Greening and Climate Adaptation

Jieun Kim, a Ph.D. candidate, was selected as a winner of the 2024 Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA)'s Staats Emerging Scholars Award. The award is given to Ph.D. candidates seeking an academic position in the 2024-2025 school year for rigorous research and great potential for future contributions to the field. During her doctoral program, Jieun received awards from prestigious academic conferences (the Association of Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)) with her research on green gentrification, published in the Journal of Urban Affairs (2024). She co-authored multiple articles on the issue of green space equity in Landscape and Urban Planning and Urban Forestry and Urban Greening. She received the Outstanding Doctoral Student Paper of the School of Public Affairs (2024) and the Outstanding Research Award from ASU's Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA) in 2024. With the ASU Graduate College Dissertation Completion Fellowship (Fall 2024-Spring 2025), Jieun is writing her dissertation on climate change adaptation and nature-based solutions (e.g., urban greening) in U.S. cities.
