CTDS Director Receives National Research Award

Center director Karen Mossberger is the 2023 recipient of the NASPAA/ASPA Distinguished
Research Award, which was announced at the NASPAA conference in Pittsburgh, PA on October
12. The award is jointly sponsored by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and
Administration and the American Society for Public Administration. The award for her work on
digital equity “recognizes an individual’s research which has made substantial impact on the
thought and understanding of public administration.”

Mossberger joined other ASU colleagues who were honored by NASPAA, which is the
accrediting agency for schools of public administration and public policy. School director
Shannon Portillo accepted the Voinovich Award for Innovation for the project “Institutionalizing
Opportunity: Enhancing Pathways to Professional Development and Mentorship for
Minoritized Students.” Mattia Caldarulo, a Ph.D. student who has worked with the center,
received the emerging scholar award.
